How to: Setup DNS Synchronization In NodeWorx

Procedure - Retrieve the DNS Listener’s API Key

The following are to be performed on the InterWorx Control Panel server that will be listening to and publishing zones for another InterWorx server.

  1. Click the NodeWorx menu item if it is not already open.

  2. Click the API Key menu item.

  3. If an API Key is not already displayed, click the Generate button.

  4. Copy the API key text blob to your local clipboard as you will need the copied API key for the next step.

Procedure - Add DNS Listening Server

The following are to be performed on the Server whose DNS Zones will be listened to.

  1. Click the System Services menu item if it is not already open.

  2. Click the DNS Server menu item if it is not already open.

  3. Click the Synchronization menu item.

  4. Enter the hostname or IP address of the InterWorx Control Panel server that will be Listening to and publishing this server’s DNS Zones in the hostname field.

  5. Enter the API key from the previous procedure into the API Key field.

  6. It is recommended that you test your setup using the Test button. Doing a pre-addition test weeds out 90% of Node addition errors that can occur.

  7. After a successful test run (denoted by the message: DNS host passed all pre DNS-sync tests : hostname) press the Add button to complete the DNS Listener addition.

Procedure - Delete DNS Synchronization

This procedure can be done on either the listening server, or the listened-to server.

  1. Click the System Services menu item if it is not already open.

  2. Click the DNS Server menu item if it is not already open.

  3. Click the Synchronization menu item.

  4. Mark the checkbox that corresponds to the server or servers you’d like to delete the DNS listening for.

  5. Select Delete… from the drop-down list at the bottom of the Synchronized DNS Servers table.
