How to: Manage Pointer Domains¶
Pointer Domains, sometimes called Parked Domains, can be set up to point other domains to the SiteWorx account.
A common example is using different .TLD extensions for the same domain. For instance, the master domain example.com could have pointer domains for example.net and example.org pointed to the same website as example.com.
Pointer domains also “point” e-mail addresses at the pointer domain to the master domain accounts. So, if example.org is a pointer domain to example.com, mail sent to postmaster@example.org will be delivered to the postmaster@example.com e-mail box.
To Add a Pointer Domain¶
Log into SiteWorx from the browser (https://ip.ad.dr.ess:2443/siteworx)
In SiteWorx, navigate to Hosting Features > Domains > Pointer, either from the side menu or SiteWorx home
Click +. This opens the Add a Pointer Domain form
Update the required fields:
Domain: The domain users will be redirected from
Pointer Type: The type of redirect:
Permanent Redirect (301): Permanently redirects users from one URL to another (example.org -> example.com)
Temporary Redirect (302): Temporarily redirects users from one URL to another (example.org -> example.com)
Server Alias: Redirects users from one URL to another (example.org -> example.com). However, the URL in the address bar of the browser stays the same. For example, if example.org is set to redirect to example.com as a server alias, the user will still see example.org in the address bar, even though the content is coming from example.com
Points To: Domain users will be redirect to
Create Mail Alias: If selected, all mail accounts will work for both the pointer domain and target domain
