How to: Remote MX Guide

Remote MX consists of the following:

  • Disabling local delivery of email for a domain

  • Editing the MX record from within SiteWorx so users can change their own

Disable Local Delivery

Disabling local email is desirable when the InterWorx server is not responsible for managing email. This is usually used in conjunction with the custom MX records, but can be used independently to simply disable email delivery for a domain.

To disable local delivery:

  1. Log Into SiteWorx

  2. Click the Administration menu item if it is not already open.

  3. Click the Mail Options menu item if it is not already open.

  4. Click the Remote Setup menu item.

  5. Choose “disabled” from the “Local Delivery Status” dropdown.

  6. Save.

Editing MX Records

To use an outside email server, such as GSuite, you need to modify your MX records. This is possible in SiteWorx.

To edit MX Records:

  1. Log Into SiteWorx

  2. Click the Administration menu item if it is not already open.

  3. Click the Mail Options menu item if it is not already open.

  4. Click the Remote Setup menu item.

  5. Use the [Edit] or [Add MX Record] links.

If local mail delivery is still enabled, providing custom MX records will not be completely effective. Mail originating from this server will be delivered locally, not to the actual MX record. You must disable local delivery to have a full implementation of external MX Records.
